Surveying the damage from the wall collapse

As Melbourne sweltered on Sunday afternoon (31/01/201) the volunteers at the Carrum Life Saving Club had no idea just how of the devastation the expected cool change was about to deliver.

As the wind swung around from the North to a Southerly, a gust of wind rattled windows and then demolished the entire side wall of the building bringing down rubble onto a footpath leading from the beach to the carpark.

The wall collapsed onto a young girl on the footpath below as she was leaving the beach just after the cool change hit.

CFA units from Patterson River and Ambulance Paramedics released the girl who was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital but amazingly it would appear that her injuries were only slight.

Chelsea SES and the City of Kingston building Inspector then set about inspecting the damage and begin the task of making the building safe including propping up the roof of the building which was very unstable.
