Australia Day 2012

Bunnings & Chelsea SES cooking up a storm on Australia Day

Good community neighbour Bunnings giving back to the community

Happy Australia Day for 2012 from the volunteer members at Chelsea SES. Again this year, the team from Chelsea teamed up with Bunnings Mentone to host the great Aussie Barbie at the Nepean Highway store in Mentone.

You've got to wave the flag on Australia Day no matter how big or how small

The sun was shining and the customers were hungry, all in all a great recipe for a successful fund raiser for Chelsea SES at Bunnings in Mentone.

Chelsea Rescue 2 was also waving the flag

Chelsea Transport and Chelsea Rescue 2 were on display while members fronted the Barbie and cooked up the snags and onions in the best Aussie tradition.

Members Alan and Pete looking very patriotic and proud to show their flag

Australian flags, also supplied by Bunnings, were in great supply and equally great demand by the young and old including one that was heading back to Scotland within a few days.

Contributors came in all sizes just like the contributions

Lamington anyone?

The iconic, Australian Lamington was also on hand for the price of a donation.

The Aussie flag and a snag off the Barbie, it doesn't get more Australian than that

Rikki at her first SES event...Welcome!

Other members, including new recruits Rikki and Gavin, were stationed at the entrances to the store with collection tins for those who wanted to donate.

Chelsea team member Paul with Bunning's Team member Brian, a great combination

Chelsea SES is proud to be associated with Bunnings who do so much to assist community groups to raise the much needed Cash to continue the work that they do. A day like this brings so much into the unit , not simply an injection of funds, but also, the opportunity for members of the community to meet the people behind the orange uniforms and for our members to explain to the community what we do and more importantly, why we do it. Bunning's generosity is often overlooked and as a group; Chelsea SES want to say a huge thank you.

Liam with a prospective team member, now that's cute!

So our sincere thanks must go to the staff and management of Bunnings Mentone; especially Anna who looked after us so well and Sharlene who invited us in the first place, and of course all of you who donated or sampled our fine fare today; you make a huge difference to our ability to continue to work for our community. And now for the results, the fundraising is split into 2 separate areas, the sausage sizzle and the donations. The final figures are as follows:

Sausage Sizzle: - $1,734.50

Donations:- $1,937.25

Grand Total:- $3,671.75

Last year was an amazing effort that we thought that the figure collected was destined to remain as a record; however, we are thrilled to say that we have beaten last year by almost $200!

Well done to everyone involved on a job well done!

Thanks Bunnings For Everything

and we hope we can do it all again

at the brand new Mentone store in 2013!
