Car Damaged As Branch Comes Down
Driveway mishap crunches Corolla
The Toyota as Chelsea found it in the owners driveway
The owner of this white Toyota Corolla wagon had a nasty surprise in store on Wednesday (28/11/82010) morning when a huge branch from a neighbours tree broke away in the wind and crashed down onto the car in the property driveway.
No, what a feeling
The Chelsea crew were called to the property in Brixton Street, Bonbeach initially as a tree down, traffic hazard, usually indicating a tree covering the road; however, in this case it was only a traffic hazard for a single vehicle.
The job had some tricky moments due to the position of the tree
The job was a little tricky as the branch was far from stable. With parts of the branch and top foliage resting on the car and the balance of the limb still moving, acro props were used to keep the main branch in place while the smaller branches were trimmed from the car.
Trimming foliage to see the wood for the trees
The tree was propped to stabilize the weight
Once the offending branch was clear of the car, the vehicle was carefully reversed out of the driveway and out from under the branch. Once this was done, the job of getting the rest of the branch down got underway.
Delicate cuts to clear the car
Cutting the branch into manageable size pieces
With the entire branch now down on the ground it was simply a matter of cutting it up into manageable pieces for removal.
The damage to the car after the branch was removed
The car suffered damage to the roof , bonnet and wing and the windscreen was smashed. The team from Chelsea SES were on scene for a little over an hour with 4 members and Chelsea Rescue 3.
Many thanks to member Allan Crompton for the terrific pictures.
