Amazingly, the planes 2 occupants walked away from the devastated aircraft after being treated for shock at the scene by Ambulance Officers. Photographer, Ken Rae, 70, and his female pilot had been taking aerial shots over Melton and Garfield and were returning to Moorabbin when disaster struck.

The wreckage came to rest only meters from the properties in-ground swimming pool

The plane lost power on approach to Moorabbin Airport just after 3.30pm and then clipped the roof of the first building which luckily slowed the aircraft just enough, prior to its poolside impact into the rear of a second home, to enable the occupants to survive

10 volunteer members in 3 vehicles were dispatched to the 2 addresses, one in Keefer Street and the other at 240 Lower Dandenong Road, both in Mordialloc, to tarp the extensively damaged roof of the house that had been clipped by the 4 seater Cessna and then to the second address to cover the plane so as to protect any possible evidence for The Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

The attending members were split into 2 crews in order to tackle the work required and after almost 2 hours, the roof and aircraft and its surroundings had been covered. The following day, members were called back to the scene by investigators to tie the plane down and secure it prior to the wreckage being moved following investigations.

The plane was declared a write off and certainly has seen the end of its flying days.
