The deadly torrent that struck Toowoomba

In June 2010 John Wells was given the news that he had stage 4 throat cancer. To anyone, this is earth shattering news, but to a singer; in an instant, everything he took for granted, thought was simply there and always available, in the blink of an eye, appeared to be being taken away. Now, following many months of radiation and chemo therapy, he can say, that with the help of so many people he is well and truly on the road to recovery.

Seeing the recent tragic flooding in so much of Australia, he felt an instant empathy with those people, as like him; everything that they took for granted, believed was there for them and always available, was simply washed away in an instant. It was time to repay the kindness and support that John had been shown throughout his illness.

In 2009, following the Black Saturday bush fires, John and Chelsea  SES member, Phil Wall, decided to do what they could to raise some much needed funds for the survivors and staged a concert, The Ultimate Tribute, at The Palms at Crown. In excess of $20,000 was raised from 200 paying guests and over 650 CFA volunteers and their families were treated to a great night out, in some small way to say thank you for the amazing job they had done.

A little over a week ago, John called Phil and said, it’s time to do another show. Phil is a long time SES volunteer and knows firsthand the tragedy and sheer scale of these types of disasters and it was agreed there and then and A Little Ray of Sunshine was born again. This terrific one night only performance will take place at the beautiful Drum Theatre in Dandenong at 7pm on the 20th of February 2011.

This is all very well, however, with all of the good intentions in the world; none of this would be possible without each of the amazing performers who have agreed to donate their immense talents to make this what I know will be another memorable evening.

Phil and John cannot thank the City of Greater Dandenong and the beautiful Drum Theatre and all of their respective staff enough for their incredible generosity of spirit in providing the sensational venue for the show. They now need to fill the 520 seats to get the job done.

To coin an old phrase; the stage is set and the players are assembled and so now is the time to shine, to send A Little Ray of Sunshine.

This is what it's all about!

Tickets for this wonderful night are $60 each and bookings can be made at the Theatre or on 9771 6666. This is a great opportunity to see a great show and at the same time send much needed funds to the victims of the Victorian & Queensland Floods; so if you were thinking of making a donation, why not do it this way!
