The Falcon on its watery resting place

Just after 8pm on Wednesday evening (10/11/10) Chelsea SES was called to assist with 2 buildings threatened with flooding at 50 Mills Road in Braeside.

On arrival at the scene, the reason for the flooding became apparent, with a Ford Falcon Sedan sitting atop the property’s fire service and water mains with water gushing out from beneath the car.

Police on scene had contacted SE Water who arrived quickly and turned off the water supply and halting the flow of water and ending the flood danger.

The scene below the car

. Plumbers on scene made an inspection of the damage beneath the car and it was decided that the car could not be towed out as it would cause far more extensive damage to the water service and so a crane would be required to lift the vehicle off and it could then be towed away.

A 20 tonne crane was ordered and some half an hour later arrived, set up and within a very short time the car was hoisted clear and settled gently back to earth ready to be towed away.

The damage left behind

It appears that the driver of the vehicle was in the car park outside of number 50 Mills Road and was endeavouring to turn the vehicle when his foot became stuck on the accelerator and the car mounted a curb and then a raised enclosure becoming stuck fast on the damaged fire service.

A busy night ahead for the plumber to ensure full service is regained ASAP

Luckily there were no injuries and only minor damage to the vehicle and plumbers were on scene ready to begin repairs as soon as the car was removed. Chelsea was on scene for approximately 90 minutes supplying lighting to the area. It has already been a busy week for the crew from Chelsea with vehicles ending up where they shouldn't be following their job on Monday morning at Mentone. Click here to see more.
