High winds keep Chelsea busy
Windy weather brings down trees
Tree down; call the SES!
As the wind speed increased in the early hours of Thursday (13/8/2010) morning, the Chelsea SES pagers began to hum with calls for assistance.
This entire tree roots and all was simply blown over in Lyle Grove in ASpendale
From just after 5am Chelsea received a steady stream of calls from Carrum to Mordialloc for building damage, trees down and trees on vehicles.
This tree came to rest on a car and fence
In Scarlet Street Mordialloc, an ivy covered tree came down in the high winds and was left resting on a car and fence.
Lucky for the owners, the car had very little damage
In Francis Street Mordialloc, a driveway tree was left in a precarious position after being buffeted by the winds for most of the night. The tall slender tree was being pushed over with its root system clearly under stress trying to keep the tree upright.
Wind in Francis Street Mordialloc had this tree still standing...but only just
The constant movement from the winds took its toll
It was just a matter of time
Later in the day, the Chelsea crew were back in Lower Dandenong Road in Mordialloc, only a few doors from the scene of the plane crash that left wreckage at the rear of number 240. This time it was 252 and a large, old tree had collapsed onto a car at the rear of a business. Again, luckily there were no injuries. All jobs were completed by early evening and although it had been a busy day, once again, Chelsea's area was not as badly affected as many others.
